SV: 8-15 "Infamous" Review/Recap

I actually enjoyed this episode more than I thought I would... minus the Lois parts.

Clark’s decision to out himself was dumb. It seems he either forgot his years of Kent programming or the Legion made him believe that he’d be accepted with no questions asked. After the secret was out, his reaction at the newsstand and with the boy wanting his autograph was priceless. I especially liked his assertion in the forest that he would find Chloe once everything blew over.

I really enjoyed the Clark and Chloe scenes. They are back to classic-Chlark. They work together, bounce ideas off each other, figure things out and worry about each other. That was a pleasure to watch.

I’m glad to see that while Chloe wants to help Davis, protecting Clark is still her priority. Even while being chased by Doomsday, Chloe manages to warn Clark about Davis/Doomsday.

Lois is still Lois. She’s completely clueless about Clark although she lived with him and his parents and has known him for 5 years. Everyone else around him knows something is off about him but her. It’s nice that she wanted to fight on Clark’s side when the government and the public turned against him but she doesn’t understand the big picture. Her passive-aggressive stunt when she found out Clark wouldn’t be telling her the secret after the time reset did her no favors. She sounded like she was somehow entitled to know this about him and trying to cajole him to tell her she was special.

Davis was great; as was Sam Witwer. While trying to stop the monster, Davis has become a monster. Scary.

Linda Lake was over-the-top but that’s what made her fun. It’s too bad she didn’t interact with Chloe in a rematch to "Hydro". I have to wonder why she thought she could control Doomsday; unless she was hoping Davis would kill her.

It’s pouring as a taxi stops in front of the Daily Planet. A soaked and pissed Lois gets out holding two suitcases. As she starts to walk, she’s splashed by an oncoming car. Clark runs up behind her wearing his red/blue outfit. He’s soaked. Tom Welling looks amazing soaking wet. Lois can’t believe that the first time she’s depending on Clark, he doesn’t show up. Really? In the five years they’ve known each, she’s never depended on him for anything? Clark apologizes but Lois doesn’t want to hear it. She says that Clark’s apology doesn’t wipe out the three hours she spent standing in a downpour. Er, Lois? Why didn’t you wait inside? And why did you wait three hours before taking a cab?! Clark says that he was busy at work. Lois replies that it’s just work; it’s not like he’s saving the world. Lois passively-aggressively adds that she gets it, Clark has other things on his mind and she doesn’t expect to be on the top of his priority list. Not with that attitude!

Behind Clark, the water coming out of the drain pipe forms into... Linda Lake. While Clark is soaking wet, Linda is completely dry. Linda takes a dig at Clark and the RBB. Clark counters that she’s a murderer who belongs in prison. Linda claims that the police cleared her. She adds that there is no prison worse than "circling the drain of obscurity". Linda says that she’s ready to make another splash. She offers to be the voice of the RedBlueBlur and threatens to out Clark’s secret unless he does as she says. Clark thinks Chloe was right, Linda is crazy. Linda shows Clark an article she’s written about him: "The Truth about Clark Kent". Clark reaches for her but she turns to water and goes literally down the drain.

Kent barn: Chloe walks up to the loft where Clark is standing, pensive. Clark announces that Linda Lake is back and ready to expose him if he doesn’t give her exclusives to all his saves. Clark’s solution is to go public on his terms. Chloe’s not sure that that’s a good idea. Clark says that Chloe is the one who convinced him that Jimmy’s picture of the RBB was a symbol of hope. Chloe notes that the world’s out-of-focus superhero didn’t have an address or a family. Clark thinks that he doesn’t have a choice but he can control how his story comes out in the press. Chloe and Clark had a similar conversation in "Blank". Clark was all for outing himself but Chloe told him to wait to talk to his parents. Chloe insists that there must be another way to stop Linda. Clark replies that he must stay one step ahead of Linda. "Even in a world this advanced, people are still backwards when it comes to accepting change" warns Chloe. Clark, smiling slightly, replies that the RBB has been accepted and maybe the world is ready to accept Clark Kent. He can finally just be himself.

Met General: A nurse unlocks the door to the Dispensary to find Davis looking over the drugs. She asks what he’s doing. Davis introduces himself and explains that he’s restocking his rig. The nurse notes that the pills Davis is holding up are anti-psychotics for multiple personalities. Since when are EMTs allowed to dispense anti-psychotic drugs? The nurse is satisfied with Davis’ explanation and leaves.

Daily Planet: Clark walks up to Lois. When he tries to talk to her she pretends she doesn’t see him. Clark tells her that he wants her to write his story. Lois is unimpressed. Clark reveals that he’s the RedBlueBlur. Lois laughs. Clark says that he saved her from the speeding car and he caused the flying barn door. Lois doesn’t believe him. She suggests that the next time he has a liquid lunch, he should take the rest of the day off. Lois has known Clark for 5 years. When has he ever to her knowledge had a "liquid lunch"? Lois is on top of a chair which is on top of a desk reaching for something (no it’s not Ding-Dongs). Suddenly she rises slowly up to within reach of what she needed. She looks down to see Clark holding the desk up. When Clark drops the desk, Lois lands in his arms. "Guess I should stop calling you Smallville" says Lois. Another callback to "Blank".

Lois realizes that that what she thought was Clark’s Peter Pan Syndrome is actually him being a hero. Peter Pan Syndrome?! How many times has Clark saved Lois and she’s been aware of it? Is she in denial just so she can feel superior to Clark? Clark starts to approach Lois but Lois takes a step back. Clark steps back as well. Clark says he wanted her to hear it from him before she hears it from someone else. Lois wants to know why she’s the first one Clark told. Why would Lois think that Clark’s shared his secret with no one but her? Clark is best friends with Chloe and dated Lana. Clark admits that both Chloe and Lana know. And Oliver, Pete, Lex, Lionel... Lois thinks that Chloe and Lana just found out like she did but Clark clarifies that they’ve known for years. Poor, poor deluded Lois. Clark tells Lois about his superpowers. Lois is amazed that she’s never put these pieces together. I’m not. Clark tells her that what’s important is that she now knows and asks if she’ll write his story. Yet another story drops into Lois’ lap. No wonder she’s not even trying. *sigh*

"Clark Kent Alien from Krypton!" says the front page of the Daily Planet on a newsstand. People in the street recognize Clark. The newspaper vender refuses to take Clark’s money and hands him a paper. A boy dressed as the RBB asks for Clark’s autograph. Aww. Clark likes his outfit. Women take Clark’s picture with their cell phones. Lucky women. People clap and cheer. A teen stands on the edge of a balcony. "Clark, catch!" she yells and lets go. Clark catches her. She kisses his cheek and tells him that she’ll fall for him any day. Hee.

A crowd forms around Clark. Linda Lake materializes from nowhere but no one but Clark notices. She warns that she’ll have the last word and dissolves into a puddle.

At Met Gen, Chloe asks a nurse why Jimmy’s room is no longer available. The nurse explains that it’s not fair to other patients for the hospital to be overrun with paparazzi. Chloe is confused how a guy with a neck brace would cause this chaos. The nurse explains that it’s a guy with a neck brace married to the alien’s best friend.

Chloe spots Davis. He is popping one of the anti-psychotic pills. He says he just got back into town. Chloe assumes that Davis’ calls on the day of her wedding (she deleted) are related to their kiss and she wants to clear the air. Davis lies that his messages were a long apology. He adds that he went out of town to give her some space. Chloe suggests forgetting anything happened. Davis can’t do that. Chloe asks if friendship is off the table. Davis doesn’t think it will ever be enough. Chloe tells Davis goodbye.

A nurse comes up to Davis stunned that he knows the Kryptonian’s best friend. Davis is confused until he sees the Daily Planet. Uh oh.

At the DP, the editor exits his office to find Linda waiting. Linda says that the DP is nothing but a poor man’s wallpaper. I’m glad someone recognizes that the DP is tainted. She suggests he clear page 1 and run her article. The editor suggests she get a new career and starts to walk away. When she clarifies that it’s about the alien, he stops.

At the Kent house, it’s a zoo with the paparazzi and the fans surrounding the house. Chloe approaches warily. An s1!Chloe look-alike (hee!) asks what it’s like to be the alien’s best friend? Inside Clark is talking to Martha. He’s surprised that Martha’s been put on forced leave. He assures her that people need time to adjust and it’ll blow over. Chloe knocks at the door and Clark lets her in. She sarcastically informs him that Lois was given an editor’s office and he’s got a penthouse office next to Tess Mercer. On the TV a distraught woman says that her husband was killed in an accident. "Where was Clark Kent then? Who says he gets to choose who lives and who dies?" she asks.

Chloe lowers the volume of the TV. She suggests they concentrate on finding Linda Lake. Chloe remembers that Linda was at Black Creek and informs Clark that Linda’s Kryptonite is electricity. A chemical, electrical bonding current kept Linda solid. Clark figures all they need is to find Linda. Just then Linda is interviewed on TV. "Clark Kent is not a hero. He’s the first wave of an all out alien invasion" she claims. She says Clark is to blame for meteor showers, power outages and a trail of human carnage. Lex Luthor was a hero who tried to stop it (Clark) but Clark killed him. Sirens can be heard in the distance. Chloe suggests Clark leave while he still can. Clark wants to talk to the authorities to straighten things out. Clark tells Chloe to go out back and he’ll catch up with her later. Chloe tells Clark to be careful and leaves.

Clark sits at the kitchen island while a DDS agent walks around him. Clark insists that he was sent alone. The agent asks why – to work on a farm? Clark explains that his father sent him to keep the Earth safe. The agent asks if Clark’s friends can attest to that. He adds that his friend, Lois, can be aiding and abetting an enemy of the state. He says that it’s impressive how long Chloe kept his secret. He wants to know what other secrets Chloe knows. Clark says that he’s been open with everything he’s been asked. The agent replies that Clark won’t mind if they run tests. Clark says he never agreed to any tests. Armed soldiers enter the farmhouse. Clark angrily says that no one’s running any tests. He throws one soldier 5 feet. The agent gives the command to fire. Bullets bounce off Clark. The living room and Clark’s red jacket are quickly riddled with bullets. Clark whooshes away.

Chloe drives up to Clark. He warns her to keep her car running. Chloe, looking at Clark’s tattered jacket, asks what the agents did to Clark. Clark warns Chloe to leave now. The radio announces that there’s a statewide hunt for Clark Kent. He is considered dangerous. A mandatory curfew is imposed on the citizens of Granville. Chloe gets out of the car. A helicopter hovers nearby. Chloe asks if the agents know about the meteor rocks. Clark replies that that’s why they are looking for her – they want a way to stop him. Clark says they have to leave town separately. Why not together? It would be safer for both of them. Chloe asks if she’s losing Clark and refuses to say goodbye. Ironically she had no problem saying goodbye to Davis, the other Kryptonian. Clark promises to find Chloe when everything dies down. Chloe suggests Clark ask Jor-El to turn back time. Clark replies that the FoS is dark but then he remembers the ring the Legion gave him. Clark tells Chloe he stored it in the toolbox in the barn. Recalling what happened in "Reckoning", Chloe wonders what the consequence will be of turning back the clock. Clark answers that he doesn’t have a choice. Linda, meanwhile, has been listening to their conversation.

At the DP, the editor throws a paper on Lois’ desk. "How slow are you?" he asks. The paper’s headline says that Clark killed Lex Luthor. Lois runs to the elevator to go see Tess. Linda is in the elevator talking on her cell. Lois, who wouldn’t know a fact if it bit her in the behind, tells Linda that stories need facts. Linda replies that if Clark cared about saving people, he would have done things her way.

When Lois enters Tess’ office, the DDS agent and a couple of soldiers are waiting for her. The agent wants to talk about matters of national security. Funny how no one mentions that she’s the General’s daughter. Lois replies that without her lawyer, she’s not saying a word. The agent signals the soldier to subdue her. Lois starts to run. Clark whooshes in and brings her to the barn.

Clark tells Lois that in a few moments this’ll all be over. He has a ring that allows him to go back to before Linda wrote the article. The world isn’t ready for someone like him. Lois wants Clark to stay and fight. Clark says that it’s too late. His whole life he’s seemed different. Lois, pulling a Lana, turns the conversation to her and her issues. She says that some people spend their lives wanting to be special but not Clark. Clark assures her that he understands. I don’t. Lois asks how someone with x-ray vision can be so blind. She says that she’s been down the hero road but now it’s different. Clark says that when he resets time, it will be different. Lois asks if he’ll tell her his secret. Clark replies that he won’t. Lois passive-aggressively says that it’s okay, why would she think she’s special. Why indeed? Clark says that it’s because Lois is special. Yes, she’s special like Jimmy, the DDS agent, Ben Hubbard and billions of other people.

When Clark opens the toolbox he is weakened by kryptonite and drops to the ground. Linda, appearing out of nowhere, knocks Lois out.

At Isis, Chloe deletes all files and shreds all documents related to Clark. Davis stumbles in. Chloe helps him to a chair. Davis says that he can’t stop the Beast. He says that in the Arctic, Chloe explained that it’s his destiny to kill the other Kryptonian. Chloe, confused, says that there is only one Kryptonian, Clark. Davis reveals that he is Kryptonian. Chloe realizes that Davis is Doomsday. She orders Davis to stay away from Clark. Davis’ eyes turn red. "Chloe, run! Get out of here!" yells Davis. As Chloe runs to her car she tells Lois to tell Clark, whom she can’t reach, that the creature at her wedding is Davis Bloome and he’s coming for Clark. Chloe gets into her car but, too late, Doomsday pulls off the door of her car.

In true villain style, Linda pauses to tell Clark her plans with the Legion’s ring giving Lois enough time to wake up. Lois tackles Linda and they fight. Linda is knocked out. Clark tells Lois to get rid of the rock. Lois checks her cell and starts to tell Clark about Chloe’s message about Davis but Clark puts the ring on before she finishes.

Two days earlier: Clark stands in the barn alone. His jacket restored to its original splendor. Yeah. He zips over to Linda Lake’s. She is writing her Clark Kent article. Clark says that she’s not going to publish his story. He hands her a story he wrote about all the murders she’s committed. He tells her that people will know who she really is and her word won’t mean anything. She is going to jail. Clark tears the wire from the fuse box and electrocutes Linda. She turns to liquid form then back to solid and falls to the ground.

Clark picks Lois up at the airport. Seeing as he was 3 hours late in the first timeline, I wonder how many people died while Clark played taxi driver for Lois. Lois complains that Clark’s hardly said a word. Clark replies that after the wedding all hell broke loose. Yeah, Lois, remember the monster that kidnapped your cousin. Lois replies that they can pretend it never happened. Clark replies that it’s a complicated conversation. Lois suggests meeting up later at the café. If Clark shows up, cool, if not then she’ll understand.

Outside, Clark pays for coffee and hands it to Chloe. Chloe says she’d have loved to see Clark Kent as an international celebrity icon. Clark quips that it wasn’t a pretty sight. Chloe figures that being a part of Clark’s entourage she must have had some perks. Clark replies only if complete lack of privacy is a perk. He adds that for a moment he thought everything would be okay and he could have it all but he was wrong. Chloe counters that maybe Clark can have his "cape and wear it too". Oh brother. Chloe suggests that Clark Kent be the unassuming journalist but then when he’s playing the hero... he steps out of the shadow in his red and blue, creating two separate identities finishes Clark. Chloe says that Clark can tell Lois and know her reaction. Clark states that he can never tell Lois who he is. Huh? Why? It makes no sense. But, hey, let’s just throw in some arbitrary drama. Chloe suggests that a benefit of protecting his secret is he’s protecting himself from getting hurt. Huh? This part of the conversation is quite confusing. Clark replies that he’s destroyed the Legion ring because controlling time is dangerous. Chloe wonders what changed in this timeline.

The nurse goes into the Dispensary as before. When Davis tells her who he is, she tells him that a patient was looking for him. Davis scans his badge and enters the Criminal Containment Ward. Linda is strapped on a gurney. She informs Davis that she’s stumbled upon his dirty little secret. Davis closes the door to the ward. Linda orders Davis to release the Beast and break her restraints. Is she crazy? Does she have a death wish? Linda threatens to tell Chloe who Davis really is. Davis starts to experience the Beast taking over. His eyes turn red. Linda yells for him to set her free. Davis puts a pillow over her face and smothers her. The Beast recedes. Davis throws the pills in the garbage and walks away. Whoa. Davis has figured out a way to control the Beast – killing. I don’t know who is creepier – Davis or Doomsday.

Lois waits for Clark at the café. Clark stands across the street out of her view. He sends her a text message that he can’t make it. She sends one back saying that she couldn’t make it either. Clark walks away. Considering the lengths he went through to be with Lana, Clark’s just not into you, Lois. Thank goodness because I’m not up for another round of "secreths and lieths" with LanaLois. Blech.

I didn't mind this episode either. The Chlark and Chloom scenes are what made it for me.

My favourite line was when Chloe discovered Davis is Doomsday and tells him to stay away from Clark. That just seemed so classic Chloe, acting selflessly for Clark.

And for some reason I loved the wtf? look that Davis gave when the nurse told him that Clark was a Kryptonian. It made me laugh.

:) I adore Sam Witwer.

Thanks for commenting. :)

This episode was a lot better than I thought it would be. The Chlark scenes were so lovely. For people who are supposedly 'just friends', they sure do grab & hold each other a lot!

And nice catch on how quick Chloe was to cut Davis loose, but she bluntly refused to say goodbye to Clark. Sweet!

Thanks for the review!

Nois feels she's so special. AH! I wonder if this was partly a practical joke by Clark. "I'm going to tell her my secret. Then I'm going to tell her how Chloe and Lana have known for years. (pause) What? She's made my life a living hell. This payback time."

I'm more moved by the kid who asked for his autograph than by anything Nois has done. (Is that the writing or ED?)

And this episode pretty much shows Nois to incompetent! Her article revealed his secret in the absolute worst way possible and gave Lake a huge opening. Maybe you could've tried to focus more on the hero angle.

That was "AH!" in my last post was supposed to be "HAH!"

Lol!

I would have to say ED.

I agree. What was Nois thinking?!

Thanks for the laugh and the comment, Harmier. :)
