SV: 7-11 "Siren" Review
I really liked this episode. I wasn’t fond of Ollie/GA last season, but after this episode, I like him! Clark grew a slight backbone with regards to Lana. Chloe’s still the coolest, smartest sidekick and friend there is. And Black Canary was interesting.
Nighttime at the Daily Planet - flash to a woman whose eyes are obscured by a mask. Chloe is typing while talking on a wireless headset. She tells the person on the other side that the file was intercepted. She burns the file to DVD. She says that of course she’s deleted all trace of it; she’s done this before. Flash to a woman in fishnets who is watching Chloe’s desk from above. The woman takes out a knife. Chloe takes the DVD from the burner just as the knife stabs the desk near the drive. Chloe grabs the DVD, shoves it in her purse and starts running. She tells the person that she needs help. She gets into the elevator. As the doors close, the woman throws another knife. It just makes it through the doors to hit the wall beside Chloe’s head.
Chloe runs to the roof of the Planet. She tells the person that she’s on the roof and hints that this is when he’s supposed to swoop in and save her. The woman, dressed in black leather, lands on the roof. She tells Chloe that the city is a bad place, she should come prepared. Chloe offers her wallet. The woman says that Chloe knows it’s not what she’s after. The woman says that next time Chloe will think twice before taking something that isn’t hers. Just then Green Arrow shows up. He shoots an arrow that pins the woman to the wall. She takes off her jacket and walks toward GA. GA lets another arrow fly. The woman sends an ultrasonic scream that shatters the arrow. She slashes the bottom of Chloe’s purse, spins and takes Chloe’s legs out from under her, grabs the disk and jumps off the roof. We were barely introduced, Ollie quips.
Kent Farm. Lana is pouring herself some coffee as Clark comes downstairs. Lana smiles tentatively and says good morning. Clark says hi but doesn’t smile. He takes a glass and the orange juice and almost walks into Lana. They look really ill-at-ease. Clark looks like he wishes he were anywhere but there. Lana looks annoyed. Lana says she’s off and leaves. Clark doesn’t look happy.
At the Daily Planet, Lois runs to catch the elevator. Inside the elevator Lois glances over at a woman. Dinah Lance. Lois says that Dinah’s the word of justice; the right wing hawk of the air waves. She asks if Dinah is off to an execution. Dinah replies that if Lois did any fact checking she’d know that executions were outlawed years ago. I see that Lois’ reputation precedes her. Dinah informs Lois that her limousine liberal Casanova has resurfaced. She hands Lois a paper that says that Ollie’s back in town. Lois is not pleased.
Chloe, sitting at her desk, is going through Metropolis Police records looking for the woman from the previous night. Clark leans in and asks if she’s looking for a new hairdo. Chloe smiles; she asks if Clark brought her ham and suisse. Clark says that’s her favorite. Chloe replies that no, it’s not and she’s mentioned it three times this week. Hmm, Clark’s preoccupied. Clark says that he can’t hang out at the house; knowing that the phantom was living his life with Lana for over a month. Chloe looks amused. Clark adds that they looked alike but wonders how Lana couldn’t tell the difference. He says that Lana told Biz that they (Lana and Biz) belonged together. He wonders what that says about him. Chloe says that Lana isn’t the same girl he tripped over in high school either. Clark looks like he’s about to say something then turns his back to Chloe and says he doesn’t want to talk about this anymore. Aw. Chloe’s hit a nerve, Clark?
Clark asks if Chloe’s had any luck tracking Brainiac down. Chloe replies not since he asked yesterday. Clark notices the gash on Chloe’s face. He asks what happened. Chloe asks if Clark seriously did not notice this till now. She assures Clark that she’s fine. I guess Chloe can’t heal herself. Clark looks really concerned. Chloe relents and admits that she’s been doing sidekick work for Ollie. Clark is shocked. Chloe explains that a girl’s got to pay her bills. Clark replies that the missions are dangerous and if Ollie’s taking her with him... Chloe explains that it was only Internet interception. She tells Clark about the woman who chased her onto the roof; almost took her head off; then went propelling off the side of the building. She adds that it was really smoking cool. Clark wonders who the woman was.
Tower apartment: Ollie heads toward the elevator as the doors open. Clark is pissed. He accuses Ollie of putting Chloe in danger. Ollie quips if they’re skipping over the hello-good-to-see-you part of the conversation. Clark angrily tells Ollie that if he and his crew want to put their lives on the line to go ahead but not Chloe. Clark adds that smart doesn’t help when someone’s attacking you on a roof top. Ollie says that he doubts the woman was out to kill Chloe. Clark replies that Chloe shouldn’t have been in danger at all. Ollie remarks that Chloe’s in danger every other week with Clark by her side. Hehehe. Clark notes that Ollie heads into danger without a second thought. He tells Ollie to try to think about someone else for once. Ooh. Pot, meet kettle.
Ollie is surprised Clark’s calling him selfish. He reminds Clark that some of them sacrifice being with those they care about to make a difference. Ollie asks what Clark is doing. He answers his own question by remarking that Clark sits around in domestic bliss curled up on a couch while a world of trouble spins outside his door. Touché, Ollie. I really like Clark but he’s put his head in the sand one too many times.
Clark looks sheepish; he changes the subject. Clark says that Chloe told him that the blonde woman shattered one of Ollie’s arrows. Now Ollie looks sheepish. He replies that it wasn’t one of his proudest moments. Hee. He adds that the woman must have some kind of sound frequency control because the noise was muffled before the arrow shattered. Clark asks about the file Chloe intercepted. Ollie replies that they intercepted Lex’s latest project –a photo file (?) – then the blonde woman showed up. Ollie wonders if Lex has a blonde sidekick of his own. Lex definitely needs a competent, devoted blonde sidekick of his own.
Lex walks into his office at LuthorCorp to find the blonde woman sitting at his desk. He quips that normally he’d mind if someone sits in his chair but he’s a little distracted at the moment. The blonde woman says that she doesn’t take to the morally murky. Lex adds unless they pay her. She says that Lex knows her standards and no one deserves to be robbed. She hands the DVD to Lex who gives her an envelope. Blonde woman says that Lex’s file almost ended up in the Emerald Archer’s hands. Lex is interested. He asks if she can find GA again. Lex says that they have been breaking in and setting off bombs at his work sites. He says that they belong in prison. He tells the woman if she brings him the GA, he’ll make it worth her while.
At the Isis Foundation, Lana pretends to be busy. Lana wears glasses? Lionel comes in and says that he’s been calling the farm but no answer. Lana replies that they have caller id. Come on, Clark would take Lionel’s calls. After a slight pause, Lionel explains that Grant, the editor of the DP, was shot and killed. Lana guesses that Lionel thinks Lex is involved. Lana says that the beauty of divorce is that covering up Lex’s baggage is no longer her problem. Lionel says that he doesn’t want to cover it up, he wants proof and he knows about her Lex Luthor spy room. Lana asks what makes Lionel think she’ll help him. Lionel replies that he knows that Lana kept a very sick woman hostage (Casey in "Gemini"). Lana says that she was trying to help her. Lionel asks how it worked out for Lana bypassing the hospital and having Casey die while in her care. Lionel wonders why Lana didn’t share this information with Clark. Er, how did Lionel find out? Lionel snickers and tells Lana to call him when she’s ready for movie night. Lionel, how can you think that you can play at Lana’s level? Lana’s the pretty ex-cheerleader, the Lana-fu expert, the astrology wiz, the artist extraordinaire, the pancake baking/flower arranging master, the hacking specialist, the apple of everyone’s eye. She’s simply amazing. You don’t stand a chance.
At the DP, Dinah Lance casually walks up to Chloe’s desk. She jimmies (hee) the lock and opens the drawer. She takes out Chloe’s phone and checks the last caller id – Oliver Queen. She smiles and puts the phone back in the drawer. I want one of those phones!
At Isis, Lana looks over Luthor mansion footage. Clark walks in holding a drawing. He awkwardly asks if Lana can help him. He shows Lana the drawing of the vigilante woman that attacked Chloe and asks if Lana knows if she’s connected to Lex. Lana says that it’s funny that everyone was quick to label her Lady Macbeth when they found out about her spying on Lex, yet Clark is the second person to ask for her help. Lana says that the woman is not in the old footage, she would have remembered the mask. Clark goes to leave. Lana admits to treating a woman who was catatonic after Brainiac infected her. Clark asks what Lana means by treating. Lana explains that she was monitoring the woman until she passed away. Clark asks passed away. Lana hastily explains that there was nothing they could do; her mind was already gone. Clark asks who’s "we". When Lana doesn’t answer, Clark asks if Lana told the phantom. Lana looks uncomfortable. Clark angrily asks why Lana is bothering telling him about this now. Lana says that it’s because Lionel is holding it over her head. Clark is understandably mad. He says that Lana’s only honest with him when she’s threatened. Go, Clark! Clark brings up the phantom. Lana interrupts. She says that she really believed the phantom was Clark. Clark says that Lana’s supposed to know him better than anyone. Lana replies that’s why Clark’s with her. Clark asks if it was easier with the phantom. Lana admits that it was easier with Biz. Biz was more affectionate and understanding. Lana claims that she can’t look at Clark without him taking it the wrong way. Clark replies that it’s because Lana is looking at him like she wishes he was someone else. Yay, Clark! With tears in her eyes, Lana says that every transgression she’s made results in Clark’s hypocritical judgement. Bullshit. She says that no one can live up to Clark’s self-righteous standards. Bullshit. Lana asks if Clark knows what it’s like to wake up every morning knowing that you’ll fail in the eyes of the only person you’ve ever really loved. Well, if you don't count Whitney, Jason, Lex, Biz... Clark replies that Lana’s the one who fell for Lex and that killer. Clark adds that it isn't him that Lana can’t face. Clark leaves a teary Lana.
Ollie’s elevator: Lois paces as she tries to figure out what to say to Ollie. The doors open and Lois is faced with a shirtless Ollie. She thinks this is going to be harder than she thought. She walks up to Ollie and punches him in the face. Lois says that that’s for breaking her heart. Ollie quips that it felt more like for not calling when he got into town. Lois promises that that one will come when he least expects it. She turns around to see the table set for two. Ollie asks how the jumping to conclusions is working out for Lois. Lois replies that it’s a huge time saver. Hee. Ollie says the dinner is for her; he knew she’d be on his doorstep and, if not, he’d be on hers. Lois says that if thinks that answering the door bare-chested is going to work... he’s dead on. They kiss. Lois notices the blonde vigilante on Ollie’s balcony. She jumps to conclusions and gets angry again. Ollie grabs Lois and jumps over the couch. The woman does a sonic scream breaking all the glass in the penthouse. Ollie is knocked unconscious. Lois looks around. She sees the GA gear. Blonde woman knocks her out of her misery.
Lois wakes up tied to a chair with Ollie. Lois is angry. She asks during all their time together why Ollie didn’t mention that he prowls the streets in green leather and a compound bow. Ollie quips that he doesn’t always carry the compound bow. Lois says that she can’t believe Ollie didn’t tell her he was the GA. Ollie replies it’s hard to image why, as she’s taking it so well. Hee. Lois asks if Ollie got bored with dodge ball and decided to play William Tell. She pauses for a moment then remembers that she kissed GA in the alley while Ollie was standing there. Ollie says he remembers that - with precise detail. Lois can’t believe that her boyfriend arranged for her to kiss a wannabe hero. Lois is knocked out. Ah, thank goodness.
Ollie tries to use his charm on the blonde woman. When that doesn't work, he tries to buy his way out of their predicament. Blonde woman says that it about more than money. It’s about justice. She asks what goes through the mind of a terrorist when he’s about to set a bomb in a factory. Ollie looks incredulous. He asserts that no one’s ever been hurt; he’s the good guy. Blonde woman calls Lex on her cell. She tells him that she always delivers, now it’s Lex’s turn. He should transfer the money if he wants the GA. Ollie manages to get a knife out to cut through the ropes.
Clark walks into the DP copy room. His head is down. Chloe says that the white flag is flying and Clark better not go off on her again. Clark apologizes. He says that he doesn’t want to see Chloe get hurt. Chloe says that they’d all breathe easier if she had a lead on the blonde vigilante but she’s got nothing. Clark says that Lana might have a lead. Oh, whoopty do. Clark says that Lana doesn’t have footage from the mansion but she was able to keep track of Lex’s projects by piggy-backing on the servers in Luthor mansion. Chloe realizes that the blonde woman knew Chloe was making the interception because she was on the DP server. Clark asks if she can figure out who was logged in the night before. Chloe’s beating herself over not seeing this earlier. Chloe calls Lana the "new and improved" version. Clark says that Lana did come through but he’s not going to let Ollie poach the best sidekick in town. Aww.
Chloe checks the logs. Dinah Lance was the only woman logged on the night before. Clark is disappointed. He doesn’t think that helps them much. Chloe asks if it’s because she’s not blonde. She says that the new bad girl could be as blonde as she really is. Whoa, Chloe’s not a natural blonde. Clark gives Chloe a look. Chloe changes Dinah’s hair. She suggests they call her the Yellow Raven. Clark says that Black Canary has a better ring to it. Chloe is very excited. She says that it makes sense. Dinah’s slogan is The Word of Justice; she comes from a family of cops with a hard-line view of crime and corruption. Chloe looks like the cat that ate the canary (didn’t think I’d go there, did you?). Chloe starts typing furiously and Clark asks what she’s doing. She says she’s earning back her stripes; she hacks into Dinah’s computer and finds a transfer to Dinah’s bank account in progress. Clark asks if Chloe can block the transfer. Chloe says that if they block the air supply she’ll have to surface.
Black Canary drops into LuthorCorp. She heads toward Lex’s office. Clark appears in front of her. She guesses that Clark works with the little Green Bean (ha!) and now that he’s all tied up, Clark’s out of work. Clark asks what BC did to GA. When she doesn’t answer, he tells her that GA is not the villain, Lex is. Clark asks if BC ever considered why GA was stealing from Lex. BC replies that nothing about Queen seems logical. Clark makes a face. BC mock-apologies and calls Ollie GA. Clarks asks her why someone as rich as Ollie would waste his time intercepting files for the fun of it and asks what Lex told BC. BC replies that Lex said that Ollie and his gang were stealing Lex’s trade secrets. Clark wants to know where Ollie is. BC backs up; then kicks Clark only to find herself on the floor as Clark looks on. She should have broken her foot – she just kicked a steel wall. She starts her sonic scream. Clark puts his hands on his ears and falls to the floor. BC leaves. Clark’s ears are bleeding.
Lionel walks into his office to find Lana looking at the mail on his desk. She fingers an envelope with a seal. He calls Lana clever for sneaking in. Oh, Lionel. Lana says that she didn’t find anything linking Lex to Grant because she didn't look for it. Lionel reminds her of her lies to Clark. Lana says that she told Clark everything. And she’s going to tell Clark everything from now on. Lionel asks what happened to the part that was trying to bring Lex to justice. Lana replies that justice can come at too high a price; like sacrificing her relationship with Clark. Lana says that she went to the edge and Clark pulled her back. Now she’s trying to pull Lionel from the edge. Oh, please. Now it’s saint Lana? Lionel, trying to understand, asks if Lana has his best interest at heart (after she had him kidnapped and tortured!). Lana says that she’s trying to change; to be the kind of person that Clark can love again. Lionel looks incredulous. So do I. Lionel asks what game Lana is playing. Lana replies that Lex is living proof of what obsession can do. Lionel says he knows his son better than Lana does. Lana insists that he doesn’t. Oh, come on – a man doesn’t know his son better than the twit his son married and divorced? Lana warns Lionel to be careful. Shut up, Lana.
Lois is struggling to break free in Ollie’s penthouse. Ollie got free and didn’t bother to untie Lois? Clark and Chloe walk in. Clark unties Lois as Lois explains that a crazy woman attacked her and Oliver. Chloe asks why a woman would attack them. She looks towards the GA gear. Lois tries to distract Clark and Chloe by mentioning how the view is spectacular... without the glass in the way. Clark looks confused. They turn towards the GA gear. Lois asks who picks archery as a hobby and adds that she’d keep her quiver in the closet too. Clark wants to know where Ollie is. Lois says that when she came to, BC and Oliver were gone.
BC barges into Lex’s study. Eh, now that she’s one of the good guys, she gets to barge in and accuse him of stuff. Lex says that she’s forgotten a little green something at home. BC replies that she’s not handing GA to Lex until Lex proves how bad GA is. BC says that she’s been digging into Lex’s plants (hee!). It seems that his auto parts factory doesn’t sell any auto parts and his tech warehouse doesn’t distribute computers. Lex replies that BC’s been listening to GA’s propaganda. BC states that Lex was never going to hand GA to the cops. When Lex turns around, he’s pointing a gun. He says he wants what he paid for. BC says that she’s not handing GA over. Lex shoots her. GA shows up. He and Lex fight. The gun Lex is holding discharges hitting one of his henchmen. BC takes care of another henchman.
GA throws Lex to the floor. Lex grabs a second gun. He shoots GA and BC as GA shoots an arrow at him and BC throws a knife at Lex. Clark shows up. Everything slows to Clark-time. Clark knocks the arrow and one bullet out of the air. He looks at the knife that heading toward Lex then at the bullet that’s heading toward BC. He goes after the bullet. The knife hits Lex in the shoulder. Clark zips out with BC. GA tells Lex better luck next time and walks out.
At the penthouse, Ollie picks up a picture of his family and puts it on the table. Lois asks if he’s got any other aliases she should know about. Ollie says that it was pretty much the biggie. He apologizes to Lois. Lois says she understands that he was trying to protect her. She adds that it makes sense now because before it didn’t make sense how he could blow off a hottie like her. Ollie says that now that she knows, can she give them another chance. Lois says that with her big mouth she can never keep a secret. Ollie doesn’t believe her. Lois says that she’s never been good at long distance relationships. She says that maybe she’s selfish but she doesn’t want to wonder where he is every night. She says that she can’t share him with the rest of the world. Okaaay. This begs the question what changes her mind if she’s really iconic Lois Lane?
At the Talon, Lois is eating Rocky Road ice cream when Clark walks into the apartment. She says that the Rocky Road isn’t helping. Lois adds that she was hoping that Grant would help her get over Ollie (does she know Grant is dead?) but the moment she saw Ollie all the feelings came rushing back. Clark asks if it can still work between them. Lois says that Ollie has this one side that she’s not sure she can live with (does she not realize that Clark knows about the GA?). Clark asks how she knows if she doesn’t give it a chance. Lois says that they (she and Ollie) are not Clark and Lana; the perfect couple; destined for each other. Clark says that it’s not like Lois to drop something when it gets challenging. Does anyone know anyone in this show? Lois says that her dad is a General and she always came second with him. Clark replies that just because someone has great responsibility doesn’t mean that Lois’ life has to take second place. Lois asks if Clark knows what it’s like to look at someone and realize that their destiny is so much greater than yours that you will never compete and always be left behind. She states that she can’t be left behind again. She can’t face another heartbreak down the road. That’s it, Lois, just give up. They hug as Lois cries. Lois says why settle for hot, rich and famous when she can hang out with Clark (and Lana). Clunk, anvil!
Clark meets Ollie on roof top. They wait for BC to show up. Clark says that he spoke to Lois and he’s sorry about what happened. He says that maybe one day she’ll get used to the whole dual identity thing. Clunk! Ollie asks when the Earth cracks open and time ticks backwards. Clunk! He doesn’t think Lois will change her mind. Dinah Lance comes over. She says she needs to eat a little crow. She asks if it’s too late to ask for an apology (uh, shouldn't it be "give an apology"?). Clark says that her apology’s accepted assuming she’s not moonlighting for Lex. DL says that she’s hung up her fishnets. Ollie says that’s a shame. Clark adds that Ollie and the boys need a den mother. Dinah says she’s not much of team player. Ollie says she’ll fit right in. Dinah asks if Clark will join the team. Clark says maybe someday.
Kent house: Clark walks in to find Lana is packing. Please let her go far, far away. Lana says that she’s going to stay with Chloe for a few days. Clark has a pained expression. When Lana starts to open the door, Clark blurts out that he stole a Lamborghini; he broke into ATMs and stole all the money; he broke more vault doors than he could count in a lifetime. Er, Clark, you were high on red K. What is Lana’s excuse? He adds that he’s anything but perfect. He says that not everyone can handle the double-sided life he lives. Huh? Clark has a double-sided life? Is he moonlighting as Superman in Offscreensville? Lana admits that she’s been a two-headed Hydra too. She still is. Clark says it’s funny; you can have all the right motives but do all the wrong things. Lana says that she’s still committed to Clark. She thinks that Clark doubts whether she's the one he’ll end up with. Clark says that he doesn’t know the future but he’ll do everything in his power to make sure they trust each other again.

Great summary. This American thanks my kind neighbors to the north.
Thanks for the review! So Clark has time to be there emotionally for Lois but not for Chloe? ouch! poor poor Chloe!
Thanks for wonderful review! Great job, as always :)
Wow, I know, there are most of Chlarker on TWoP forum. I like Chlark on Smallville, but considering future of Superman I am Cloiser. I'm looking forward to Clois hug and talk.
Thanks for the feedback. :)

This Canadian says you're welcome.
So Clark has time to be there emotionally for Lois but not for Chloe? ouch! poor poor Chloe!
What are you referring to?
Wow, I know, there are most of Chlarker on TWoP forum. I like Chlark on Smallville, but considering future of Superman I am Cloiser.
I'm not a Chlarker. I'm a Chloiser... because I'm considering the future of Superman. :)
Great review! Can't wait for the Clark and Chloe scenes. The end Clana scene sounds awful. But i hope it's the beginning of the end for them.
I'm going to give my take tomorrow over at tube talk. I hope u can come over and check it out:)
BTW, i'm a Chloiser too, and a Chlarker. I love them together!lol.
I understad :)
And I need to say, Chloe and Clark were great in this ep. I really liked both of them.
Did Lex ever get his money back from BC?
And this show is dangerously becoming THE JUNIOR SUPERHEROES. I, for one, was not happy to see the Green Arrow again.
Did Lex ever get his money back from BC?
I wondered about that too. If a wired money transfer is intercepted, is the whole transaction cancelled? I hope so. Black Canary reneged on the deal.
And this show is dangerously becoming THE JUNIOR SUPERHEROES. I, for one, was not happy to see the Green Arrow again.
I didn't like GA last season but I found him funny and charming in this episode. That doesn't mean I want to see him again though. :)
