I figure anything’s got to be better than last week’s crapfest. But “Cure” wasn’t just better, it was fantastic! Dean Cain is awesome as a bad guy.
Jimmy is trying to cheer Chloe up at the Talon. He surprises her with tickets and says that a night on the town just the two of them is just what they need. Chloe is suddenly distracted by a dark haired girl. The girl leaves and Chloe follows. As Chloe exits, she calls Belle Reeve to find out if Sasha Woodman has escaped. Sasha shows up. Chloe points mace at her and warns that if she or any of her swarm goes after her (Chloe), she’ll “black flag” them. Sasha asks whether she knows her (Chloe). Chloe, surprised, tells Sasha her name and reminds Sasha that she tried to kill two of Chloe’s best friends in freshman year.
Sasha shows Chloe a scar on her temple and explains that she’s no longer a meteor freak. She’s been cured but the side effect is that she doesn’t remember the last six years. A few weeks before, Curtis Knox performed an operation that took away her powers. She apologizes if she’s done anything to Chloe or her friends.
As Sasha gets to her car she spots Dr. Knox. Dr. Knox tells her she has something he needs and chloroforms her.
At the Kent farm, Lana is preparing Clark’s favorite blueberry pancakes(!!). Kara asks what took her and Clark so long to get together. Lana explains that it was because of Clark’s secret. No it isn’t. It’s because of Lana’s pathological feeling of entitlement. Kara asks if it’s a human thing to be secretive. Lana responds that it’s a “Clark thing” but he does it to protect people. Clark shows up. He blathers that Lana didn’t have to do all that. When Lana mentions that they’re out of maple syrup, Clark gets syrup from Vermont. Kara asks what happened to not showing off your powers.
Just then MM shows up in a rage. He tells Kara to stay away from Kal-El. Kara says that that he may have been able to blame her on Krypton but not on this planet. She goes to punch MM, but Clark stops her (see pic).
Kara tells Clark that MM is the one who forced her family from their home one night. MM responds that after what her father did, she was lucky. Clark tells her that MM is his friend. Kara tells him that picking friends is not one of abilities.
Lana asks if MM is a Kryptonian too. Clark answers “Mars, actually”. Ooh, awkward factor eight. Lana smiles in understanding. Isn’t she perfect?
MM asks if Kara has her crystal. When Clark responds that she lost it, MM says that if she gets that crystal everything that Clark holds dear could be lost. He says that Clark must find the crystal before Kara. Kara listens from the loft.
Dr. Knox and Lex meet at the mansion. Knox mentions that he’s doing what Lex hired him to do; something Lex’s legion of scientists said was impossible – he’s curing the meteor infected. Lex responds that some of Knox’s practices worry him. Knox has been ordering unauthorized tests on the meteor infected. Lex asks how the level of toxicity in the patients’ organs is relevant to the task at hand. Knox tells him to leave the science to him. Lex asks if Knox has any idea why three of his patients are missing. Knox answers that it’s probably because Lex insists on removing their memory of “Hotel 33.1”. Lex says he ordered that to enable the cured to go on with their lives unfettered by their past. Knox points out that Lex is just covering his tracks.
At an ancient looking building, Knox puts a record on. He goes to the bedroom where a woman is lying unconscious on the bed. He tells her that he’s found another piece of the puzzle. He walks over to where Sasha is strapped down. He tells Sasha that she’s going to serve a greater purpose. He takes a knife…
At the Daily Planet, Chloe is looking at Dr. Knox’s file. Jimmy comes over. He is happy that they’ll spend the day together. Chloe asks for a rain check because she working on a story on the meteor challenged. Jimmy is tired of the meteor freaks. Chloe reminds him that they’ve agreed to stop calling them that. Jimmy says that’s what they are and they’re keeping him and Chloe from seeing each other. He pouts in a corner – kidding.
Clark zips in to ask for Chloe’s help in finding Kara’s crystal. Chloe tells him that she doesn’t have time. She says that from Mt Olympus it must look like his stuff is very important but she’s busy with something important too. Clark is understandably perplexed.
Chloe meets Dr. Knox at his office. She tells him she’s a meteor freak and she wants to be cured.
Lana types at a laptop. A message asks if the Metropolis location met with her approval. She types that it’s perfect and the money has been wired. Clark comes in and Lana clears the messages. Clark asks if Chloe has opened up to Lana about anything. Hmm, looks like Chloe found out Lana is alive in Offscreensville and all the secrecy of last week was for naught.
Lana says Chloe is working 24/7 to impress her wonder boy editor. Clark tells her that Chloe’s working on a story on Dr. Knox. Lana tells Clark that she’s heard about Dr. Knox because she is trying to help the meteor infected. Clark answers that he didn’t realize she wanted to save the world. Oh, for pizza’s sake! Can this get any more nauseating? She adds that Dr. Knox uses brain surgery to remove meteor freaks power. Ah, Lana – is there anything she doesn’t know or can’t do?
Kara spots Jimmy at the DP. She asks about the footage Lois took of the ship at the grain silo. Jimmy says that the tech guy couldn’t get anything but static. Kara asks if he knows his way around cameras. She sweet talks him into helping her. Kara says that Jimmy is her hero. Okaaay.
Back at the Talon, Chloe is writing a letter to Jimmy. Clark asks Chloe about her research of Dr. Knox. Chloe says that when she cured Lois in the dam it almost killed her; who’s to say that the next time she won’t stay dead. Clark asks about the side effects of the procedure. Chloe mentions the memory loss. Clark panics – he tells her she’s going to forget everything; her friends; her experiences; she’s going to forget him (see pic). He looks really torn up. I want to hug him. Chloe responds that people will help her fill in the blanks and in time she’ll be fine. Chloe adds that if Clark wants to save her, he should let her go.
At a fertilizer plant, Knox prepares to take a body out of the trunk of his car. Lex confronts Knox. Lex says Knox’s killing spree comes to an end now. Knox says that countless patients are living their lives with no idea what Lex did to them thanks to him. Lex asks about the murdered patients. Knox calls them the “chosen few”. He explains that they’re the reason he invented the cure and came to Lex. He knew that somewhere in Lex’s museum of oddities, he (Knox) would find what he’s looking for. Lex threatens him with a gun. Knox raises his arm towards Lex; Lex shoots him (see pic) and walks away. Knox gets up and knocks Lex out. Clark rescues Lex – knocking Knox out.
At the DP, Jimmy and Kara wait for the tape to render. Mm, wow – there’s plenty of flirting here. Jimmy’s work on Lois’ tape finishes and they are able to read “Flintlock”. Jimmy tells Kara that it’s a security branch of the government. When he says that Chloe’s going to be happy when he tells her about this, Kara sweet talks him into not telling Chloe. Just then Chloe comes in. Jimmy says it’s not what it looks like. Chloe is very calm. She says goodbye to Jimmy, drops an envelope in the garbage and leaves.
At the hospital, Lex wakes up to find Clark. He’s surprised that Clark saved him. Clark says he was tracking Knox. Lex replies that he knows that Lana is using the $10 million she stole to get at LuthorCorp secrets. Clark tells Lex that he’s just as guilty as Knox and that it sickens him to think he had to take a life for Lex’s life. Clark Kent does not kill!!!! What is wrong with these writers?! Lex tells Clark that Knox is not dead and he’s murdering his patients one by one.
Chloe meets with Knox. Knox tells her she’s one of kind; the level of meteor rock in her heart is extraordinary. Chloe looks confused. Knox tells her to relax. Chloe asks where Knox’s staff is. Knox is preparing the chloroform and Chloe asks what that is. Suddenly she realizes what he’s up to and starts to run. Knox however is faster and knocks her unconscious with the chloroform.
At the planet, Jimmy is frantically going through Chloe’s stuff. Clark shows up and asks Jimmy if he knows where Chloe is. Jimmy mentions the letter that Chloe left him. In it she tells him that after that night she might not remember him and asks that he remind her why they belong together. Arg… they don’t belong together!
At the Dr.’s evil home, Knox is preparing to take Chloe’s heart and give it to Sophie, Knox’s love. He says that thanks to Chloe, Sophie will live forever. Does that mean that Chloe can live forever?
Clark finds Knox’s watch at Knox's office. Lex shows up. Clark asks Lex where could Knox have taken Chloe. Lex shows Clarks pics of Knox in WWII, in 1888, in 1675. Knox has had a thousand names and he’s lived for centuries; that’s why he can’t be killed – he’s immortal. Clark says he couldn’t have gone far, he left his watch. Lex reads the inscription and realizes that he’s seen that before. He goes through the pictures of Knox. It’s the inscription on the Victorian Arms building. Clark hopes that Knox is still living there.
Back at the doctor’s home, Chloe is strapped to a table (see pic). She tells Knox that if his wife is sick, she can cure her with her abilities. Knox replies that Sophie is healthy; she’s in an induced coma to reduce her stress for the procedure. Chloe angrily replies that he put his wife in a coma because he knows she’d freak at what he’s doing to innocent people. She adds that she came for help, not to be cut up by a Jack the Ripper wannabe. Knox replies that he was Jack the Ripper as he cuts her. You know, I believe him. That is one creepy guy. Dean Cain can sure pull off the dangerous, crazy, mad doctor act.
Clark shows up and knocks Knox (eh!) out of the way. He tries to free Chloe but the Kryptonite is affecting him. Knox comes back at Clark with an axe. Knox says that while Clark’s powers are beyond those of mortal men (a Superman reference!), he’s met his match. As they’re fighting, Knox says that Clark doesn’t know the pain of living for centuries and watching the women he loves die. Sadly, I think Clark’s in the same boat. Clark answers that he and Knox are more alike than he (Knox) thinks.
Knox takes a swing but hits the Kryptonite vials that surround Sophie. In a truly touching moment, he runs to her and begs her not leave him. She opens her eyes momentarily, and then closes them. Knox cries (see pic).
MM shows up in the barn. Clark asks what MM did to Knox. MM responds that Jor-El and he had an agreement – don’t ask, don’t tell policy. Huh? Ask, Clark, ask! Clark asks if MM killed Knox. MM says Knox is immortal and so is Clark but even when all of Clark’s loved ones are gone, Clark still has a greater calling to fulfill. Kara comes to barn – she tells Clark to ask MM what he did to Zor-El. MM says that Zor-El was a traitor. Kara asks Clark who he believes; family or this Martian Manhunter.
At the farm, Clark tells Lana that Chloe’s story got her in over her head. Lana asks if Chloe is okay (huh? Is it really Lana?). Clark reluctantly brings up Lex and the $10 million dollars Lana stole from him (Lex). Lana says that the money was part of the divorce settlement. She’s planning on using it to help the meteor infected people who were victimized by LuthorCorp. She adds that she’d never hide anything from him. They hug – but both don’t look happy.
Room 807: Lana walks in wearing black (she’s evil now!). She sits in front of a large set of monitors which display different rooms in Lex’s mansion (see pic). She's spying on Lex! What will Lana do next??! Better question - who cares?
At the DP, Chloe comes up to Jimmy. He asks if she remembers him. She says yes. He shows her a box that contains reasons they belong together. The box contains junk. Anyway, Jimmy says that the world shook when they found each other again. Chloe apologizes for the craziness she put him through. Jimmy says that they should agree that the future will be more normal. Chloe looks sad. She tells him that she can’t promise normal. Jimmy look devastated. He asks if this is about Kara. Chloe says that no this is about her. Jimmy asks what’s going on. Chloe tells him she can't tell him. Jimmy says he’s tried but it’s time to give up. What a heartbreaking scene. The background music is perfect.
Dean Cain asks for donations to the Christopher Reeve foundation.
This is seriously one of the better episodes I’ve seen. Wow.
